Crating

Crates are needed for higher value framed art, statues, and items hard to transport due to weight or length (glass).
For reasons of consistency and accountability, Interstate moves should be handled by Mover Specialty Services which I can arrange for you.
Crating framed art keeps acid paper away from the piece and many times is needed more to protect the frame.
Statues and other heavy, fragile, items must be crated because their weight would overpower any box.
All of these items can be crated.  What to crate is a matter of value.  How would you explain to your insurer why your $5000 book was in a cardboard box?

Every city has different rules and regulations.  In general, the older and more congested the city is a guarantee for the need of some type of permit.  When you are here and City Hall is 600 miles away you may need help in becoming legal for delivery.

Rugs

In general, moving is a good time to get your carpet cleaned.  First, it probably needs it and second their pick-up and delivery is a part of the cleaning cost.
When you are needing to move to storage carpet cleaning is before the final destination carpet cleaning makes even more sense.  There is a cost associated with just moving and storing the carpet and that cost should be applied to the positive of cleaning.
